Distribution and cultivation
We do not know when our ancestors began to grow persimmons because of no record except a little in modern times. There are some traces left in Korea about cultivating the persimmon: for example, Lee Yeop left a record in the Nongsajibyo under the reign of King Wonjong(r.1284~1351) in the period of Koryo. In the period of Choson, under the reign of King Sungjong, Kang HeeMaeng wrote the use of persimmon in JungChu Ceremony in Gukjo-o-rye; in 1614, under the reign of Gwanghae, Lee Sugwang wrote Diospyros kaki, Jeonghyang mellow persimmon in Jibongyuseol; in 1660, under the reign of Hyunjong, there was a document written about the recipe for Diospyros lotus and making the dried persimmon. According to Seo MyungWoong in Gosasibejib (r.1715~1781), there is a recipe for persimmon vinegar and the mellow persimmon. In addition, the division of a sweet persimmon and an astringent persimmon can be proved by the archieves made in Yeomchang period (r.1192~1333) |
